 Tree of Souls

The birthplace of the mighty Energia, the Tree of Souls is a towering presence within Haven. Fashioned like a large oak tree, it spans to such heights that the top is difficult to see, with wide and leafy boughs that yawn to shade all those below. This tree pulses with an unseen energy by day, but a colorful menagerie of bioluminescence at night that etches each branch and leaf. It is the hailed resting place of all spirits within Haven whom pass on, and the energy of the deceased is recycled and repurposed into Energia that is then sent back into the earth for consumption and use of the wolves.

where there is energy there is life.

The morning broke warm and calm, with an oceanic sky bathed in hues of gold, pink, blue and all colors that lay between those. As the stars shone their last and gave themselves over to sleep, the first of the true rays of sunlight spilled out across Haven in a warm and comforting embrace, as if Dawn herself wanted nothing more than to wish all she held dear the most peaceful of mornings. Birds began singing, while the myriad of animals went about beginning their routines in all flavor and manner. Haven, every bit living up to its name, appeared truly purified in the presence of such nature's finery.

When the interruption came at last, the land fell still and silent. It wasn't out of fear or rancor, no; everything listened, even the rocks and grass, feeling the sudden pull and push of energy that came from the Tree of Souls in a series of waves much like ripples on water when a stone is thrown. It wasn't so much a summons as it was a welcome, an invitation: 'Come,' it whispered. 'Come and rejoice.'

The mystery of the Energia and the Tree itself would remain; it was unknown what the wolves would find there once they arrived.

Aprique had seen many days dawn, hard worker that she was. Each morning she was up before the lark, ready to acknowledge and appreciate the lightening of the sky and the gentle slumber of the stars. Each day was a new opportunity to work for the Western nation, for those she doted on. Even in the depths of tiredness Aprique would look forward to a new day coming – such was the world of the optimist.

Some dawns crept in with such stealth that, until the sky had brightened, they were barely noticeable – and some dawns put on a show to herald the new day. Today was one of those days where the sky bloomed with colour in a show of nature’s beauty.

The Western Hierarch lifted her head from taking a drink at the river’s edge. Her ears twitched and then stilled – along with everything else, it seemed. For a few heartbeats the valley was silent and unmoving as a silent invitation was extended from the tree which had provided all life.

When that moment of collective silence ended, Aprique let out a gentle call: her own invitation for the West to attend to the Tree of Souls and a promise that they wouldn’t be alone.

She didn’t dare rush there and risk sullying the moment. Instead Aprique took her time and watched, bright eyed, as the mammoth tree grew larger in her vision. When the canopy seemed to consume the sky she came to a halt and bowed her head.

The very pull of the tree tugged at her heartstrings, guiding her along an invisible path and yet all the same, it felt familiar. Vicca lifted her steel-blue eyes to the yawning branches of the large tree on her horizon, finding it closer and closer each time she glanced. Though she had yet to harness any of the famed Energia for herself, she felt such peace when thinking of the Tree and the magic it represented, having witnessed firsthand its power as a child and again as an adult. So when the day dawned with this distinct and inescapable sensation to visit the Tree -- as if the Tree itself beckoned her -- who was she to refuse?

Vicca cut a path through grass and wood and soon found herself at a visible threshold: the place where the shadow of the towering boughs met the sunlit ground. Warmth bathed her shoulders as she stood there, toes abreast, finding herself very near to a wolf whom she had never met. (Aprique) Though her scent was familiar, having been etched along the Western borderlands. Wanderer though she was, Vicca called many facets and places of Haven her home, making it her business to know where the nationlands lay in order to respectfully avoid crossing into their territory. "It's almost hard to breathe in its presence, isn't it?" Her gaze remains glued to the tree even while she speaks to the stranger, her voice tranquil and soft in the air of the morning. At her hinds, her pale rosy tail wags once in wordless greeting, and all the while she wonders just what this summons might mean.

The marred woman had not been far from the tree when the call came. She had been resting, she had been finding it hard to relax in recent weeks. Dreams came to her uneasy and left her in a cold sweat. Today she rested, her eyes open and ears perked upwards as she lay far too aware of the movement around her.

The air fell still, as if the world held its breath as the Tree called to all living beings within its reach. Ildaytia stood slowly her eyes fixed on the oak tree that shed light the night before. A small pink tongue licked at her lips as she stepped carefully over the roots of the trees around her. She hadn't been here long, but the importance of the call had not gone unnoticed by the grey she-wolf.

She slunk through the trees, her shadowed face barely visible as she spotted two lightly coloured wolves standing rather close together. The one nearest Ildaytia spoke and grey ears swivelled quickly to catch the quiet words. She was right. It was almost as if her chest was tight as she stepped forward to stand a few paces away from the wanderer. Her ears flattened against her skull, her tail swaying gently behind her as green eyes stared intently at the trunk, not entirely sure what it was she was waiting for.

Bogbean was already on her way to the Tree of Souls when she felt the call- a joyful beckoning, a feeling of welcome washing over her in gentle waves. It brought to mind the tide on a calm summer day, splashing over her paws as she gazed into the water, looking for treasure but unhurried in her task.

The souls of her fathers rested in the Tree of Souls, and it was high time that she got to pay her respects. Hopefully they would understand why it had taken her so long. I've missed you, but I've just been so busy- helping others is what keeps me going.

They'd understand, she knew. Bogbean could hear the soft patter of other wolves gathering, could smell their scents drifting on the breeze. The Tree of Souls grew bigger in her vision-
she thought it was the tree, anyway. It had to be! She might have pinned it as an oak, except it was large, almost frighteningly so. But she couldn't be afraid of something that gave her such a sweet welcome. Did it somehow know she was here to see her fathers? She had never seen the Tree before, but something about it inspired a feeling of gentle smallness in her, as if the hugeness of the tree was something that protected her.

Someone unfamiliar howled nearby as she approached- were they from another nation? Despite being a grown adult, she was sheltered. She had met many unaffiliated travelers, but never a wolf of another nation.

Others were nearby, huddled around the base. She could sometimes be overenthusiastic... but this seemed like an appropriate time to be friendly, didn't it?

One wolf caught her eye. She was striking- tall, pale-furred with a beautiful coppery dusting along her back, murmuring to the others close by. Bogbean stepped closer, sudden

"It's very, um... big. But it makes me feel safe." She responded. Something about the context of the gathering made her feel uncharacteristically shy- as if she were a cub who was about to be caught doing something she wasn't supposed to. Was there a certain etiquette for approaching the Tree? She hadn't considered that there might be other wolves present. She cast an unsure glance at the pale wolf closest to her, and at the others gathered close by, giving a gentle wave of her tail.

where there is energy there is life.

They came, like moths drawn to a flickering flame or distant lamplight. One by one the wolves who felt the pull of the Energia were guided to the base of the seraphic Tree and blessed with a feeling of divinity or contentment once they passed the threshold beneath its boughs. A mighty pulse of energy pushed through the earth, following the roots and manifesting in a series of complicated emotions that would surge upwards from the earth and into the paws of the wolves. It wasn't harmful, but it was still a grand display and likely to startle.

The strength of the Energia flowed through them, connecting them all into one singular being and for a brief span of time, every wolf present would feel the emotions of the other wolves that surrounded them. Before the connection would break, they would feel compelled to reach for the thread of Energia that best represented their current desires. And then, with a simmering, simpering wave, the connection would cease and normalcy would return among the gathering.

MITZI

SOMETHING IS HAPPENING!

Through the roots of the mighty Tree of Life, the Energia has emotionally connected all of the wolves present in a pleasant - if surprising - binding ritual. Each wolf has been given a task that they must include clearly in their next post:

Your character must think to themselves of a personalized Energia magic or prowess, singular to their own desires and personality. Be as detailed or as vague as you'd like.

Example A: "Daisy trembled at the power of the Energia. Giving in to the sensations, she imagined herself bending the earth beneath her, churning soil for planting and feeling a connection with the ground."

Example B: "Gary steeled himself as the Energia found him, wary of the power he felt. But in that power, he imagined himself wreathed in flame, just as powerful and at one with his most precious element."

Be creative! Who knows what the Tree of Life is up to...

”Sometimes, I
Feel so far away from home and sometimes, I
Am lonely but I like to roam”

The tune spills in a folkish melody from his lips. ”Sometimes I pace forward, I pace backwards always, bending breaking, tall grass shaking... beneath my weight” There is familiarity in the rhythm of his feet - a stride that danced more than paced him forward through the shroud of the trees. Music had been hewn into his bones from the beginning - his birth had accompanied drum beats and his upbringing the woody knock of hollow sticks on stones. It had travelled with him across a vast expanse of land into this particular here and now that held a vibration not-unmelodic. It’s newness delighted him, it’s familiarity ushering his paws forward in rhythmic sweeps with a merry twinkle in his eye.

Sidestepping the great trunk of a tree, Judas spills to the fringes of the scene with perhaps a bit much exuberance. The rhythm has vanished and in its wake was a peaceful if not solemn silence. To the gathered few his opalescent eyes flicker quickly, recognizing only Vicca amongst the gathered before they are drawn to the great oak before them all and his jaw slackens a touch beneath it’s towering might. He is not provided long to gawk at it’s might however - the moments are fleeting between this and a pulse that rushes through the earth and shoots up his paws, igniting his world. It is magnificent, incredible - an electrical surge that manifests in a cry that bubbles up through his vocal chords. His bones thrumm, his muscles contract in a shock that was not unpleasant. Delighted he was, but he feels the anxieties of Ildaytia, Vicca’s calm curiosity, Bogbean’s shyness as though they were his own. Judas draws sharp of breath, his eyes fluttering shut as a vision descends upon him like a gift. He fancies a connection to the Earth so profoundly deep that he might look into the hearts of all who tread upon it and see visions beneath their skin - emotions that may not have made it to their features. He shudders at this magnitude that had nearly bowled him over and opens his eyes again, bleary and abruptly spent. His breath comes in deep pulls, grateful for the surrounding oxygen as he drops to his smattered haunches. He doesn't speak for a moment, fearing his own naivety among those who were likely natives of this land but it is overcome and the question comes tumbling from his mouth regardless. ”What was that?"

Butterflies. So flighty, so inconsistent and so nightmarishly diffcult to catch. It had been a long day for the grass-stained boy. That morning was his hunting morning; he would carry a large piece of bark from his den through the forest, filling the hollow of the strip with vegetation. Ripe juicy red berries, thick crunchy leaves. A small nest of ants he had found fallen from a tree. Today's haul was impressive and the boy was already salivating thinking about his next meal. His next task of the day was to once more attempt to add more butterflies to his collection.

He had been lolling happily toward a clearing not far from the 'glow-tree' when he heard the call and clumsily changed directions. He had barely passed into the shadow of tree when the strike hit him and his gangly legs gave way, sending him sprawling to the ground with a yelp of mild delight. The earth had not jumped for him for a while now! He lay, all four paws spread out to his sides, tongue hanging from his mouth when the sensations began.

The tingling started in his toes, an unbearable tickly itch that slowly spread to the upper muscles of his hindquarters before fizzing down to the tip of his tail. He howled with laughter, tears leaking from the corner of his eyes as the sensation intensified bedore finally disappearing entirely, leaving his limbs feeling heavy and sluggish.

As the sensation faded Zearane finally took a look at the gathering of wolves. Not being shy in the slightest he bounced to his feet and skipped toward the congregation.
"Hiya, I'm Zearane"!He sung to no one in particular, his tail swinging rapidly behind him as he bounced some more. The sensation he felt before seemed to have left him numb, usually he could feel the push and pull as his muscles worked to allow his exuberant movement.

His eyes zeroed in on an insect, it moved in slow motion before him, it's shiny green wings seeming to take forever to flap. It was almost as if it had been magnified and slowed just for him to catch. His chest lowered, his hindquarters wiggling in the air playfully before he pounced at the slow insect. He squealed in disbelief as his body soared into the air, arcing over the insect, his tongue flailing desperately from his mouth before he landed hard on his side. As the dust cleared around him he lifted a leg and looked at his hindquarters. His nails had grown and thickened, the underside jagged slightly so as to enable him to climb trees in his pursuit of butterflies and insect sides. The muscles in his legs were corded and thick -like that of a kangaroo- allowing him to jump higher and with more force than ever before, sending him flying over the green insect he had attempted to catch. His tail had thickened and lengthened; if he stood now it would rest on the ground behind him, offering him a counterweight when he sped through the trees using the branches as steps. His body had adapted to his lifestyle, giving him the ability to jump higher, climb the trees and fly through the branches. However the importance of this was yet to hit the young boy as he lay amongst the roots, wiggling the toes of his right forefoot, gasps of amazement leaving his maw every few seconds.

In more ways than one, Vicca felt that she and the other wolves present were already somewhat connected spirit to spirit, their longings for the tree coupled with the fact that each of them had heeded the mighty Tree's call in turn. The Energia, she knew, was not something to be underestimated. She had seen wolves brought from the brink of death, or even wreathed in flame, they themselves unharmed; Energia was a force, but it was still part of the earth, part of them and thus she couldn't help but feel connected to it. Others murmured similar tidings as she but before Vicca had even a moment's chance to respond to them, something churned upwards from the ground and directly into her soul.

It immediately frightened her, this show of power: she hiccuped against it and strained as if to flee, but some force tethered her to her place, as if she were grounded by a steady electrical current. It took a moment for her to realize that despite the sensation flowing through her veins, there was no pain -- with that clarity came recognition, and with a shaky sigh she gave herself over to it, steel eyes drifting closed as she could feel the emotions and auras of each wolf there. It was as if they were one sentient being, and the connection she felt to them was genuine and beautiful. It brought a tear to her eye, because the one thing that filtered through her mind as a definition of the experience was true, passionate family.

"O!" she cried, soft and succinct, feeling the Energia worm its way through her every facet. Images crawled to the forefront of her thoughts: images of using the earth's power to connect with others regularly and at her own will. She imagined soothing emotional hurts, and lending her own strength to others in need. It was a fitting image considering her personality, and it made her yearn for it so harshly that for a moment, her connection to the others was forgotten.

And then, it was spent. The connection dropped and she heaved a heavy breath as if she'd just been struck in the ribs, suddenly panting. Her eyes reopened and she looked to every face there expectantly as she caught her breath. 'What was that?' the young male asked. "I don't know for sure," she whispered, collecting herself. From the looks on the faces of those around her, she wasn't alone in the experience. "But I've never felt such a connection of family before." Vicca's eyes grew moist and soft as she looked to everyone, remembering the feeling.

Others came to the Tree. Aprique had known they would, and she offered them acknowledgement in the form of a smile. A female with soft colouring reminded her of a rose. She came to stand beside the Western Hierarch and Aprique’s slowly wagging tail stilled so as not to intrude upon her space. The honeyed woman kept her body language loose, though, as others arrived and murmured greetings. Here she was not a leader and there was no burden of maintaining strength upon her shoulders; she was free to gaze up at the great Tree in quiet wonder.

Aprique might have summoned her own words of reverence had the Tree not acted first. She felt the shift as if coming to from a deep slumber she hadn’t known she’d been in. The surge of the energia flowed around her, brushing her paw pads, encircling her. And then it was flowing through her, into her paws and along her limbs.

She chanced a glance at her companions. They were wolves Aprique didn’t know, many she’d never set eyes on before, yet she felt as one with the group as with any of the Western loyalists. It wasn’t simply the knowledge that they had all chosen to respond to the Tree’s call; it was as if the Tree itself was melding them together, somehow.

The energia wasn’t through with Aprique. She felt another shift, this time within her mind – images being slotted in as if they’d always belonged there.

She saw herself with a smile lighting her features. This Aprique radiated happiness and she glowed: pure, white light shone in a halo around her crown, bathing those who came close in a warmth and brilliance which soothed their troubles and lifted their spirits. This Aprique was sharing every good intention and ounce of positivity she had with those she loved in the form of light.

Aprique wanted that image to be her reality more than she had ever wanted anything, but it proved fleeting. The pale female who had come to stand nearby spoke again, and Apri felt her tail begin to sway again.

“I think I saw the wolf I want to be.”
She shook her head, a half smile turning up her lips.

First post

The white wolf had been on the borders steadily traveling towards the other scents wafting on the wind. Determined were her footfalls. She would prove the demons of her past wrong and one day accept their devotion. Or so she felt. It couldn't end any other way in her mind. Her father, brothers, even her mother, one day she would rule them. And they would rue the day they called her weak. Long lithe legs carried her onward. Pushing her body, feeling her heart race in her ears as she ran for periods. She had stopped last night not to far from this place and awoke with the sun blazing. She could feel the pull as she gazed at the greatness of the sun.

It could melt even the most frozen of days As she stretched lazily and long. Ears perked forward after a moment, blazing eyes pulled to the sky for a moment again. She almost felt the tug, tickling her down to the bone to move forward. As she approached the tree...she felt. Her heart, walled up and alone...felt. She felt the Energia only as it pierced through there. The warm that spread as it spliced through her was indescribable. Her world was snow white, images of the water turning to ice, snow fall and winter. Delaiah was so enamored with the icy world and adored wind blowing through her fur. Pulling it this way and that. What a wonderful emotion to be free like a little one in the snow. How she could revel in this private paradise forever. "I...I am home."

Wolves swarmed toward the tree, heeding the call just as Ildaytia and the two before had. The girl stood wary and alert as more and more wolves came. One after the other. Her paw scuffed nervously at the ground below her, her tongue flicking out to moisten her lips and nose more often than she needed. She sat still and quiet on the outskirts until she felt the shudder of energy that seemed to come straight from the tree itself. It felt like the wind had been knocked from her chest and she gasped audibly even as those around her questioned the strange feeling aloud.

Among so many quiet sentimental murmurs a boy sung out a greeting. Ildaytia found it easy to ignore. The buzzing in her ears was too loud anyway. Not many could hear much over the din that had begun crackling in her ear. In her mind she could see herself surrounded by those who had hurt her, all with their teeth bared menacingly. She could see herself, shadows dancing in the crisp blue light that sparked around her. The grey-silver fur seemed alive with electric current. Lightning rumbled overhead, a single bolt sizzling to the earth to meet her fur and yet no harm came to her. The congregation of enemies in her vision moved forward, the first steps in their attack. Her own voice echoed with a warning to them to step back but they wouldn't listen. Simultaneously her eyes widened and a large bubble of crackling electricity surged outward from her body like a forcefield, forcing all those standing against her to skid backwards, their paws leaving gouges in the grass where they desperately tried to fight her power. Electric current spread throughout the bubble like a net, crackling and dancing forcing her enemies further and further away until darkness fell on her.

She opened her eyes slowly and peeked around herself to assure she was safe. The wolves who had followed to the tree stood around her still and none seemed to have witnessed the charcoal wolves that had threatened her. "What a strange dream..." She muttered, shaking her head gently.

Bogbean had no more time to consider her words or fears. She turned towards other approaching wolves, opening her mouth to speak, but was cut off as the second wave of energy from the Tree overtook them. Then, she didn't need to speak to them: for a few moments, she knew them all, and she mostly liked what she saw. Kindness, determination, a little bit of loneliness- she felt all of these things reflected in the wolves around her. She couldn't be nervous or afraid of them, not after that.

She was being offered something, or perhaps asked a question. The feeling she didn't know could be aware of, the feeling of her own paws, the world around her, faded and dulled as she listened. How would she respond? Did she understand what was being presented to her?

Her eyes closed, and what Bogbean saw in her mind's eye was the bottom of a body of water. It was deep, deeper than she had ever been in the docile rivers of her childhood home. In some corner of her mind, she knew her feet were still planted on the earth in front of the Tree of Life, but the water felt real. She darted forward, ears pinned, nose somehow sealed against the frigid lake water. Her paws easily guided her course, and her lungs held as much air as she could ask for.

She sunk back into her paws, and water no longer surrounded her. Surrounding her on all sides, the other wolves present were still in their own reveries, or coming to just like her.

Giddiness filled her, and a goofy grin split her face. Unable to contain herself, Bogbean played bowed to the tree before her, then spun in three circles, yipping, uncaring of who she might be jostling in her excitement.

Thank you, all of you- fathers! She must have been meant to come here. There was no doubt about it. Whatever had just happened had been amazing.

SOMETHING IS HAPPENING!

The power of the Energia has spread through the gathering, and during the connection it has understood the wants and desires of the wolves! Each wolf has been gifted their custom Energia: they will understand and know its presence, but it will take practice and dedication to become proficient with it.

You will find these custom Energia powers on your character profiles and your mini-profiles from here on out! A character's custom Energia cannot be learned or taken by another wolf. It is as individual to your character as a fingerprint.

The rush of emotions from her connection to the others is intense, driven straight into her spirit with such vigor that even as it all dies out over the next minute, Vicca knows that her perception of these wolves will forever be etched onto her heart. Her steel eyes travel from face to face and find similar expressions of awe and wonder, leading her to believe that it's more than likely they had succumbed to visions similar to her own: of redemption, Energia, and prowess. The moment her thoughts linger on the Energia, Vicca feels a change within herself: the very earth beneath her bends and vibrates, and as she stands closest to Aprique, she could sense what felt like joy and anticipation flow through the earth from her direction. It came suddenly and without boundary, leaving just as quickly. The Energia churns in her veins, and Vicca understands that she has discovered a new ability.

"The Tree has given us gifts," she comments, though her voice is quiet and mousy in the presence of such greatness. She steps away from the gathered wolves and closer to the tree's large trunk, bending to one knee before it out of utter reverence and fealty. "I honor those who have passed through you. Your gift will not be ill used." It's a prayer and promise both, a sign of her understanding and awareness. When she rises to her paws once more, she turns to look at the rest of them gathered; they would forever be bound by this moment, and her smile to each is genuine. "I'll never forget this. I hope to see you all again soon."

She needs to take some time to herself, to explore this new energy that runs through her veins and to come to complete terms with what happened here today. More than anything, she wants to show her appreciation and so she strikes out at a fast-paced walk, prepared to visit Terra's Temple and offer homage. Unless stopped, she would leave the gathering in peace.
